What if 2025 is the year that we - parents - reclaim the way we NOURISH our children? The year where we find the confidence to feed our children, not by strictly following external guidelines by the book, but also from within - connecting those useful guidelines with our gut, with what works for us, our kids and our multicultural families?

This year, is the year I will step out of my comfort zone, together with you. Stepping out of my comfort zone, because I want to make more impact, bringing more smiles, more ease, more realness to mealtimes.

Look, feeding our families (and ourselves) doesn’t have to be so hard. It FEELS hard, because we FEEL pressure to get it right (whatever that might mean) 🤷🏻‍♀️

My friend and culinary author @emmafrisch asked me to share three tips for parents on handling candy and stress around kids’ obsession with it during Halloween.

👻 It’s true - we are fearing candy more than zombies in this tradition today. In my link in bio, you can go to the blog and listen to a 6 minute podcast with my tips to deal with candy while maintaining a healthy eating pattern 💜

My main message? Please don’t be afraid of candy - because if you’re going to be afraid, you will have an interaction with food that nourishes that fear. If I fear candy and say ‘only one’ every time my five-year-old asks it for breakfast, he will become instantly more attracted to it. Maybe, he asks for it even more plus will overeat from it when he can.

I think it’s really key here to evaluate:
🙋🏻‍♀️ Are my fears helping me?
🙋🏻‍♀️ Are the things that I would like to say about this can be helpful or unhelpful for the relationship of my child with this candy?

👻 I invite you to work on your food fears backstage, keeping it cool on the parental stage, breaking this intergenerational cycle of good and bad interactions with food. Because - after all - there are no good and bad foods, only good and bad interactions with food.

Small talk will always be small talk. But it’s funny how even in the smallest conversations, health culture sneaks in 🙋🏻‍♀️

This was an actual conversation I had today. And honestly, I was a little too rushed to get my son to school, to have a GOOD chat about what defines (un)healthy foods and how categorizing foods is unhelpful 💜
